Why do they call him durantula

Pressed for an explanation as to why we should call Durant The Servant, the wiry forward eventually relented. While accurate—in that Durant truly does play for everyone, from his Oklahoma City Thunder teammates to his fans—it's just not catchy, and handles need to be catchy.

Not to mention, he seemingly despises Slim Reaper because of how depressing it is, and The Servant isn't any more uplifting. Simmons revealed that Jalen Rose was trying to get "Iceberg Slim" going for Durant despite meeting objections. Although Iceberg Slim is hardly perfect, it's better than The Servant.

Way better. And so are completely made-up suggestions like "Beanstalk Bandit," "Lanky Liquidator," "Twiggy Torpedo," "Lean, Mean Scoring Title Machine" and "Slender Slayer," all of which are awful and corny but keep in theme with the spirit of bynames. If Durant is that against Slim Reaper, then he's free to change it. Not bad, right? Not bad at all. It's way better than Durantula.

And we're not the only ones who like it. Lots of other people like it, too:. Shortly after we put this post up earlier today, we hit Reddit to see if we could track down the user who actually came up with the nickname "Slim Reaper"—and we think we found him. His inspiration for coming up with the nickname was, well, just see for yourself. Unfortunately, Kevin Durant is not a fan of his new nickname. All Rights Reserved. If you could go ahead and stop referring to former league Most Valuable Player Kevin Durant as the "Durantula," that would be great.

As he told CSN Bay Area's Henry Wofford on Wednesday, the new Golden State Warriors forward doesn't like the nickname and, in all likelihood, would prefer if people refrained from calling him that all together.

It appears that the year-old is against all nicknames that aren't his initials, as it was in when he forswore the ultra-cool "Slim Reaper" moniker. Durant was actually sued back in in federal court by a guitarist named Mark Durante, who filed an injunction stopping him from using the "Durantula" name as he said he had used it as part of his performance persona for years.

The former Oklahoma City Thunder star's reps claimed he was never officially using it, though. Skip to content. NFL Football. NBA Basketball. NHL Hockey. MLB Baseball. EPL Soccer. NCAA Football. NCAA Basketball.
