Gonna go pull the top end in a few minutes I did however notice a gouge on the piston Flipped the bike again I would go ahead and replace it anyways. I planned on it, but my concern is if I have a bad water pump or wp seal would coolant mix in my fuel or is there another issue?
On a 2 stroke a bad water pump seal only mixes with the transmission oil How do I check for a crack in a water jacket? Instantly died, and rolled to a stop, no spluttering etc. I'm completely stumped, it should start! But it doesn't. It just doesn't seem to fire. I've even tried a nice big bump start, and it turns over absolutely fine, and kicks over fine.
Just doesn't fire at all. Good compression must rule out any major piston or barrel failure, good spark must rule out poor electrical connections on coil, pickup, HT lead etc. Fuel is clearly getting into the carb, the jets are clear, no crap in the float bowl, I can smell fuel in the exhaust and out of the plug hole if I kick it over with the plug out. All I can see it really leaving is timing. I did pop the generator cover off, and everything looks ok in there. But I suppose it could have sheared the woodruff key and spun on the crank or something.
Any input or things I could try would be very much appreciated. Yeah, new plug is my next purchase just for the sake of ruling it out. I've never heard of a plug sparking outside of the cylinder, but not inside though. And then cooking it was my next try after that.
When I take it out it's wet with fuel, so I know it's getting through. I'll check the timing after that I guess, but the generator seems to be tight on the crank, so I'm not too hopeful it's that although it would explain everything. The old ritual, compression fuel and spark. Run it at half throttle. Does it gag and knock? Too lean; drop the clip on notch. Does it blubber and only run clean when it catches up to itself? Rich; raise the clip.
Remember to make only one change at a time, and run the bike to check, before you make other changes. Every jet affects all the others as well, so a change in one will alter the way the others perform. Oddly, though, lots of the bikes running too rich on the needle and main circuits are simultaneously lean on the pilot and air screw, which control the mixture at small throttle openings.
You should use the pilot jet that allows the fastest idle with the air screw small brass screw on left side at about two turns out. Then turn the idle air screw on a Kehein it's the black plastic knurled knob, and it's different from the air screw to slow the idle down to the proper setting.
If the carb is clean, and the plug's not fouled, and you're still having trouble starting the bike, it may be too lean on the pilot. You can richen the pilot mixture by screwing the brass air screw in clockwise , to richen the mixture at idle. Do this a quarter-turn at a time. If you have turned it all the way in and it's still hard to start, you may need a richer pilot jet.
By the way, my son and I were out at Muenster Saturday, on a couple of orange bikes. It was a great day for riding. Good luck with your KX. Joined Sep 30, Messages 49 Likes 0. This would cause the gas to stop flowing therefore no gas would be gettin there and so it wouldnt b running. MXSparx Mr. Meltsomeglass Oct 1, Originally posted by KawieKX New plug and jet the bike.
Sounds like your jetting is really rich. Also, if you are not revving it much, try a plug that has a one lower. It iwll be hotter and help to keep deposits off the plug at low RPM's to keep the plugs from fouling. Oct 4, Thanks to everyone! Hey, thanks for all the great input. I took my bike up to the dealership and they had a look at it.
