Before attempting to repair frequently-used keys, try removing a key cap from a key you rarely use. Examine it closely to establish any differences from the ones described here.

Using two notches to gain purchase, slide the inter-key sheet upwards, revealing 6 small screws. Now carefully lift the top of the keyboard and angle it towards you, revealing its two ribbon cables.
Gently lift the locking tabs on the ribbon cables and withdraw the ribbons. You can now remove the keyboard. On different laptops there are several methods of removing the keyboard. In some, you only need to release tabs along the top. Others are retained by screws under a bezel between the keyboard and the screen or accessed from the underside of the laptop. Insert an opening tool beneath one of the top corners of the key you wish to remove and angle it upwads until you feel it unclip.
You should now be able to lift the key cap off, moving it slightly in the direction of its lower edge. On the underside of the key cap, notice the different sort of clips at the top and botton of the key. The top ones are designed to push on or pull off but the bottom ones push on only. For this reason you must remove the key cap by first lifting the top corners, not the bottom, and re-engage the top clips first on replacing it. The butterfly mechanism has two pegs at the top and two at the bottom, which are retained under 4 metal clips.
Repeat with the other top peg. Take care as it may take flight as the second peg is released. In the key cap well you will see the silicone rubber snap-action key switch actuator. When depressed, this brings two contacts beneath it together.
This is glued in place and you will probably tear it if you try to remove it. First of all, blow out the dust and loose dirt. Then clean out the well with isopropyl alcohol and an old toothbrush. Pay particular attention to the metalic area around the silicone.
Wipe or dust the stain gently with a dry, soft cloth. If the stain remains, moisten a lint-free, soft cloth with water or a mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water that does not contain impurities. Wring out as much of the liquid as you can.
